Error messages on the app & proxy issues
So, you've received an error message when trying to login via the app? Using a different internet connection resolves most errors.
Here are some error messages and steps to follow...
“Oops! The game was unable to connect, check your internet connection”, Redirect error or Remote error messages.
Step 1. Check that your device is connected to the internet.
Step 2. Check that a web browser loads a website: i.e. try to load a website via Safari.
Step 3. Everything working fine? If the device isn't connecting to the internet then you need to speak with your IT administrator because there's an internet connection issue. If the device is connected to the internet and the website loads fine, then it's time to check your HTTP PROXY...
Check your HTTP PROXY
First, check with your administrator that TeachYourMonsterToRead.com is white-listed (or not black-listed). There are no ports to unblock.
Go to your device settings and click on your wi-fi connection. Click for further information on the wi-fi connection (i.e. on iOS click on the "i" icon next to your wi-fi connection). Check the HTTP PROXY setting at the bottom of the screen...
HTTP PROXY setting: it'll be either Off, Manual or Auto
Off: if the setting is 'OFF' then the app should be working fine. If the app isn't working then try a different internet connection (i.e. a different wi-fi) or speak with your IT administrator as there could be a security setting blocking the app from connecting with the internet (which is needed in order to login).
Manual: if the setting is 'MANUAL' and Authentication is OFF then the app should be working fine. If the app isn't working then try a different internet connection (i.e. a different wi-fi) or speak with your IT administrator as there could be a security setting blocking the app from connecting with the internet (which is needed in order to login). If Authentication is ON (i.e. on iOS you can see a green switch) then the app won't work. Authentication needs to be OFF or disabled in order for the app to work.
Auto: on the rare occasion that the setting is 'AUTO' then the app is unable to work. There's a technical limitation with the app which means that the app does not support the iOS 'AUTO' proxy setting. The app does not support using a Proxy Auto Config File. Ask your IT administrator if you can use a manually configured proxy (with Authentication OFF or disabled) and this will enable the app to work. You could also try using a different internet connection.

Why is the computer version free?
The game has been funded by the Usborne Foundation, a charity set up to support initiatives to develop early literacy.
Our mission is to help as many children learn to read as possible. The computer version is 100% free and we put profits from the app back into the Usborne Foundation, to continue to create new and exciting ways for children to learn.
The charity was founded by Peter Usborne MBE and his children, Nicola and Martin, one of the world’s leading children’s book publishing companies and Children’s Publisher of the Year 2012. He was previously one of the founders of the magazine Private Eye.
What age is it for?
The game is for children in the first stages of learning to read, or for older children who need a bit more practice. Read more details about the three games.
How do children learn from the game?
The game takes children on a magical journey, meeting colourful characters along the way and collecting fantastic rewards. When children are engaged, they’re motivated to learn.
As they progress, they rehearse a range of essential reading skills; matching letters to sounds, blending, segmenting, tricky words and reading full sentences.
